There have been many research reports over the years about why Americans love fast food so much, and I know they do, I love it myself. One report a couple of years ago suggested, with empirical evidence including brain scans that fatty foods such as burgers, etc, are as addictive to the brain as heroin. That's a scary thought, but evolutionarily speaking, it does make sense if you think about it.
In fact, did you know that folks who eat fatty foods are happier and less likely to suffer from depression? That's interesting isn't it? When it comes to fast food or losing weight that's unfortunate I suppose, but, again, that also kind of makes sense right. There was a great article recently in MedicalExpress Online News on July 27, 2011 by Deborah Braconnier titled; "Fatty Foods Really are Mood Enhancers," which stated;
"A new study published in the August issue of the Journal of Clinical Investigation shows just why it is that people tend to turn to fatty foods in order to boost their emotional state and reduce feelings of sadness. Be it chocolate chip cookies, French fries and a chocolate shake or whatever your favorite fatty food may be, researchers say these fatty foods create a biological change in your body to reduce the feelings of sadness."
Almost sounds like a set-up for human addiction doesn't it? Perhaps the human consumer has no choice at all, as they are as good as hooked. No wonder the fast-food restaurants have it made and keep growing world-wide. Okay so, does this mean we should be feeding those who are manically depressed hamburgers rather than anti-depression drugs? Might save the taxpayers some money if the depressed individual was getting government assistance for their condition? Have them eat Happy Meals - is that my plan? Ha ha ha.
Fatty Foods feed to those who are depressed - within the realm of moderation - ought to solve a lot of problems without adding to the obesity component which too is growing all too fast in our society, one belly at a time. If you want happiness in your life, why not consider this reality and add a little "fatty food" to your diet, and if you are suffering from depression, stress, or feel utter despair, maybe happiness is just a hamburger away. Luckily, in the US you can get one, and have it your way, just about anywhere.
Just don't get addicted because fatty foods are highly addictive, and you don't want to trade depression for diabetes, otherwise in the end you'll end up with both. Please consider all this and think on it.
