They say if you want something you have to go out and get it, and obviously that is true. But first you must want something, you must deeply desire it, so that you can motivate yourself to get off your butt, and work towards that goal, and satisfy that want, need, and/or desire. There are many people who would rather sacrifice, and not chase their dreams and desires, but I would submit to you that you could end up with an unfulfilled life if this is the path you choose.
You must desire your destiny, and work towards that to achieve happiness. Most importantly you should try to find happiness along the way, and perhaps it's a lot like that famous quote; "happiness and fulfillment is a journey, not a destination." Luckily, in the United States of America we have the right to pursue happiness, but we don't have the right to trample other people along the way. Nor are we guaranteed happiness, that's something we are allowed to pursue, and we must be willing to take the risk to go out and get it.
The interesting thing is that happiness can mean so many different things to so many different people. Some people are quite content and happy just to have a good book to read, stay-at-home, and cook themselves a nice meal, while having a glass of wine. Others want to live life on the edge, and go rock climbing, race motorcycles, or even jump out of perfectly good airplanes. Some folks wish to challenge themselves on long journeys, or go out and run marathons. Yes, they will be sore and tired when they are done, but for them this brings joy and happiness, and a sense of achievement.
Whatever floats your boat, and that's what happiness is all about, but happiness must come from within, and it must be something that you truly desire from within. Many people believe they are happy when they have the trappings of wealth, or they have achieved in the eyes of society, and yet when it's all over they aren't quite as happy as they expected to be, but that's not because those things shouldn't make them happy, it is that truly deep down they didn't desire them. Rather, they wanted respect from their fellow man, so they played along with that façade.
Please always remember that; first you must desire your destiny, then you must take joy in the journey, and you must do it for yourself if you hope to reach true happiness. Indeed I hope you will please consider all this and think on.
